Danish-American dancer Sebastian Pico Haynes combines the refined heritage of the Royal Danish Ballet with a distinctive contemporary sensibility shaped by his international career.
He began his training at the Royal Danish Ballet School, first in Holstebro and later in Copenhagen. In 2011, he joined the Royal Danish Ballet as an apprentice and became a member of the corps de ballet in the 2013–2014 season. His talent was recognized early in his career: in 2013, he received the Talent Prize awarded by the Friends of the Ballet, followed by Queen Ingrid’s Honorable Award in 2014. He was promoted to soloist in 2016.
From 2017 to 2020, Haynes was a member of Nederlands Dans Theater 1, where he further developed his artistic language through close engagement with some of the most influential voices in contemporary dance. He later returned to Copenhagen and to the Royal Danish Ballet, bringing together classical precision, expressive depth, and a powerful contemporary presence.
His repertoire with the Royal Danish Ballet includes principal roles such as Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake and Des Grieux in The Lady of the Camellias, as well as performances in Flower Festival in Genzano, Études, Chroma, and The Bournonville Fantasy.
His recent work reflects the breadth of his artistic identity. In 2025, he performed in Kammerballetten’s Stay Tuned, an evening created by internationally acclaimed choreographers Sol León and Paul Lightfoot. During the Royal Danish Theatre’s 2025–2026 season, he interpreted Macbeth in Akram Khan’s new full-length creation Lady Macbeth, and performed in George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments as part of the program Giant Steps.
Moving naturally between classical tradition and contemporary experimentation, Sebastian Pico Haynes is an artist of remarkable versatility, intensity, and stage presence.
