Sebastian Kloborg (born 1986, Copenhagen, Denmark) is an award-winning Danish choreographer, director, and dancer. He began his training at the Royal Danish Ballet School in 1999 and, after graduating in 2003, joined the Royal Danish Ballet as an apprentice. In 2005, he entered the corps de ballet, and in 2009, he was appointed soloist, dancing with the Royal Danish Ballet until 2016.
At the Royal Danish Theatre, he performed leading roles, including Romeo in John Neumeier’s Romeo and Juliet (2005), Theseus/Oberon in Neumeier’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Prince in Tim Rushton’s Cinderella, and Albrecht in Giselle. His extensive repertoire also includes works by Jiří Kylián (Bella Figura, Petite Mort), George Balanchine (Serenade), John Cranko (Onegin), Jerome Robbins (Dances at a Gathering), José Limón, Angelin Preljocaj, and—central to the Danish tradition—key Bournonville roles in Napoli and The Flower Festival in Genzano.
Internationally, he appeared as a guest artist with the Inoue Ballet Foundation in Tokyo in La Sylphide and Napoli (Act III), and with the State Ballet of Georgia in Tbilisi in Ashton’s La Fille mal gardée. In 2009, he performed Kipiani in Bournonville’s From Siberia to Moscow.
From 2012 to 2014, Kloborg danced with Gauthier Dance in Stuttgart, Germany, and since 2016, he has worked as a freelance dancer and choreographer.
Alongside his performing career—often in collaboration with Maria Kochetkova—he has commissioned and interpreted works by choreographers such as David Dawson, Julian Nicosia, Ella Rothschild, Benjamin Millepied, and William Forsythe.
As a choreographer, he created Ludus Air (2011) and, from 2017 to 2020, was invited to a choreographic fellowship with Danish Dance Theatre, creating multiple works for the company, including the acclaimed Walk the Beast. His commissions also include creations for English National Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet, Beijing Dance Theatre, Ballett Chemnitz, and Corpus Dance Company.
In 2019, he created Absolute Pitch-Black for Kammerballetten (Denmark), which received Denmark’s Årets Reumert award for Best Dance Performance (2020).
Since 2021, he has been closely affiliated with the Betty Nansen Theatre in Copenhagen, co-shaping physical theatre as choreographer and movement director, including productions such as Pride and Prejudice (2022) and Dark Spring (2022).
Since 2021, he has also served as Associate Artistic Director of the DAP Festival (Pietrasanta, Italy) and sits on the board of the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition.Honours and awards include the Reumert Talent Award (2006) and the Crown Prince Couple’s Cultural “Stjernedryspris” (2020).
