Junichi Fukuda is a native of Japan and a distinguished dancer and choreographer with an extensive international career. Throughout his performance career, Fukuda has been a member of renowned companies such as Ballet Tech/NY, Oakland Ballet, Smuin Ballet/SF, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, the New York Baroque Dance Company, the Boston Early Music Festival, Buglisi Dance Theatre, and Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, where he was featured in numerous principal roles. Transitioning into choreography, Fukuda has received several prestigious awards, including the Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship Award, the Boston Conservatory Alumni Commissioning Award, the Bates Dance Festival Emerging Choreographer Residency, and the S&R Washington Award. His works have been presented internationally at MASDANZA in Spain, Dance St. Louis’ Spring to Dance Festival, DanceNow at Joe’s Pub Festival, Bates Dance Festival, and FIDCDMX in Mexico City. In 2014, Fukuda founded FUKUDANCE as a platform to further his artistic journey as a choreographer and director. The company has performed nationally and internationally, including in Spain, France, Mexico, and Japan, receiving support from organizations such as the Boston Foundation, American Dance Abroad, Boston Cultural Council, Mass Cultural Council, and New England Foundation for the Arts. The Washington Post has described Fukuda’s work as a “tasteful proposal” and “a work of easeful harmony.” He holds an M.F.A. in Choreography from Jacksonville University and currently teaches at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
