Giovanni Napoli

Originally from Palermo, Giovanni Napoli is a talented Italian dancer and choreographer who has distinguished himself both in Italy and internationally. He is currently engaged with the Ballett des Staatstheater Augsburg in Germany under the direction of Ricardo Fernando. Giovanni was recently invited as the sole Italian representative at the Festival Internacional de Ballet de Cali in Colombia. On this occasion, three of his creations—EmbracingAbout Relations, and Ne mai sí dolci baci—were streamed on September 4, 2020.

Giovanni’s professional training began in Italy, where he danced with the Balletto di Toscana Junior under the direction of Cristina Bozzolini. He then spent over nine years as a member of the MMContemporary Dance Company, excelling in works by prominent choreographers such as Michele Merola, Mats Ek, Enrico Morelli, Karl Alfred Schreiner, Eugenio Scigliano, Emanuele Soavi, and Gustavo Ramirez Sansano. These experiences led him to perform in theaters around the world, including in South Korea, Colombia, Canada, and Morocco.

In 2013, Giovanni moved to Germany, where he collaborated with the ensemble Kreuzgangspiele Feuchtwangen and the INCompany directed by Emanuele Soavi. Since September 2019, he has been part of the Staatstheater Augsburg, performing choreographies by Mauro Bigonzetti, Ricardo Fernando, and Guillaume Hulot.

Alongside his dance career, Giovanni has developed a promising choreographic portfolio. His creations have been selected by international networks and commissioned by Italian companies. Notable works include Profumo and Fo(u)r Seas/on for the Agorà Coaching Project, You Deserve a lover, selected for the Vetrina Giovane Danza d’autore – Anticorpi XL, and Human Race, commissioned by the DAP Festival in Pietrasanta. He is currently working on a new piece titled Papers for the Delattre Dance Company in Germany.

During the lockdown period caused by the pandemic, Giovanni co-created the video project Can you hear me laughing? with Francesca Poglie, presented at the Lago Film Fest. This work reflects on physical distance and the human need for connection, themes particularly relevant in today’s context.

Giovanni continues to contribute to the world of dance with passion and dedication as a performer and creator, pursuing innovative projects and international collaborations.
