Francesco Annarumma was born in Naples in 1988. He began his professional studies at the prestigious English National Ballet School. He later joined the Ballet School of La Scala Theatre in Milan and completed his training at the Académie Princesse Grace under the direction of Marika Besobrasova.
His artistic career began as a freelancer, collaborating with several choreographers and performing in La Campanella at the Monaco Dance Forum in Monte Carlo, directed by Jean-Christophe Maillot.
He subsequently joined the State Theatre at Gärtnerplatz as a soloist under the artistic direction of Hans Henning Paar, performing in various important repertoire pieces. With the arrival of the new director, Karl Alfred Schreiner, he further expanded his artistic experience, dancing in several countries, including China and the United States (Texas), and began exploring his first choreographic projects.
Throughout his career as a dancer, he has worked with many renowned choreographers, such as Jo Strømgren, Jacopo Godani, Toni Rizzi, Georg Reischl, Emanuel Soavi, Marco Goecke, Emanuel Gat, Benoît Lachambre, Marguerite Donlon, Alexander Ekman, Antony Rizzi, Christopher Roman, Michael Schumacher, Cayetano Soto, Edward Clug, Nora Sitges-Sardà, Ann Van den Broek, Erna Ómarsdóttir, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Mauro Astolfi, and William Forsythe, with whom he performed the leading role in One Flat Thing, Reproduced.
His first choreographic work, Incontro, premiered at the Dance Theater Munich for TanzTotal. He later contributed to the MinuteMade production at Gärtnerplatz Theatre and began receiving several awards for his choreographic achievements.
His choreographic journey has led him to various theaters, including Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, where he choreographed for the opera Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi; the Staatstheater of Magdeburg in Germany with Strange Creature; and the Totem Dance Theatre with productions Acto and Anima Oscura (from Pergolesi) at the National Opera of Kiev.
He continued his career by choreographing for Étoile Giuseppe Picone with Tribute to Rossini at the Coliseo Theatre in Buenos Aires. He was later invited by Picone to the San Carlo Theatre in Naples for a new production titled Sonata.
Recently, Francesco was invited to the Zurich Dance Academy as a guest teacher to prepare students for his new choreographic work Core. Following this, he was invited to the National Opera of Ukraine, where he conducted various workshops.
As a choreographer, he was appointed Artistic Director of the contemporary dance festival R-Evolution Dance at the Eduardo De Filippo Theatre, recognized by the Ministry of Culture. He was also commissioned to choreograph for the first ballet training project for the academic diploma course titled DNA-AND, organized by the Rome National Dance Academy at the Ruskaja Theatre.
In 2020, he joined the OnDance platform, organized by Roberto Bolle. In 2023, he choreographed for the ballet school of the Rome Opera Theatre, under the direction of Étoile Eleonora Abbagnato, with the production Atto Due.
He was later called back for a new production titled Match!, showcased during the Maker Faire 2023 innovation fair, promoted by the Chamber of Commerce at the New Rome Fair. Most recently, he was invited to the Philadelphia Ballet School under the direction of David Karapetyan and Company for his new creation Orizzonte.
Soon after, he was named Director of the Premio Danza D.A.S Gran Galà. He recently began a creation for the Djkt Ballet Company in Plzeň, choreographing a full-evening ballet entitled Requiem of Brahms.
His upcoming productions include Furore for the Junior Ballet Antwerp, premiering in February, and Creature for the Rome Opera Theatre Company and the Rome Opera Dance Academy in March, both under the direction of former Paris Opera Étoile Eleonora Abbagnato.
