Didy Veldman trained in Amsterdam. She danced for the Scapino Ballet, the Ballet
du Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Rambert Dance Company. Didy began
choreographing in 1987. She formed Alias Company with Guilherme Botelho in
1992. Didy left Rambert in 2000 to concentrate on her choreographic career. She
has created a wide variety of works for companies around the world including Les
Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Cedarlake N-Y, Cullberg Ballet and
Goteborg Ballet of Sweden.
In 2016, she founded her own company “Umanoove” with support from Arts
Council England, Quercus Trust, The Place, Dance East, South East Dance, Siobhan
Davies, Rambert Dance Company and a few private donors. She received the
Dance East Choreographic Development Award and was selected for the 8th
Rural Retreat for Future Dance Leaders at Jerwood Dance House. Didy has been
teaching professionals and students worldwide since 1994. She currently works at
the Royal Ballet School, London Contemporary Dance School, Rambert School and
teaches her own Umanoove dancers.
