Fatima Cerqueira

Fatima Cerqueira was born in Belo Horizonte -Brazil, having as her most influential teachers, members of the Original Ballet Russe, Carlos Leite, and Tatiana Leskova. Still in Brazil, she worked with choreographers like Hugo Dellavalle, Hugo Travers, Clyde Morgan, etc, having danced principal roles in Chopiniana, Romeo and Juliet, Balanchine’s Mozart Concerto nr.5, Swan Lake, Jeu de Cartes, The Seasons (Glazounov). FC did her further education in Paris, with M. Raymond Franchetti, Directeur de la Danse at Paris Opera, at the time.

Going on to be a soloist at Companhia Nacional de Bailado, in Lisbon, she worked with choreographers as John Auld, Terry Westmoreland, Tony Hulbert, Armando Jorge, Patrick Hurde, Rudi van Dantzig, Michael Corder, having danced as a principal in Romeo and Juliet, Paquita, Raymonda, Chopiniana, La Sylphide, Rhyme nor Reason, Carmina Burana, Ramifications, etc. Moving to Denmark, FC danced at the Pantomime Theater, where she did all-important roles in ballets and pantomimes, having worked with Kirsten Simone, Niels Kehlet, Flemming Ryberg, Palle Jacobsen, and Jens Graaf, among others. Teaching since 1993, she has taught in companies as Mancopy, Danish Dance Theatre, Marie-Brolin Dance Theatre, as well as in Dansens Hus (Dansehallerne).

She has also been a part of the Faculty at the National School of Contemporary Dance and has in the past 3 years been the leader of The Royal Danish Theatre Ballet School in the city of Odense. FC also teaches abroad and has been invited many times to give company class to Grupo Corpo, Dance Theatre of Hagen, Joinville Dance Festival, as well as many schools and companies throughout Brazil.
