Born in Salisbury, England, Alistair Sorley was awarded a scholarship at the age of 16 to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he graduated in both violin and piano, receiving a prize for collaborative pianists.
He was also a prizewinner at the International Chamber Music Competition in Caltanissetta. At the Bellini Music Institute in Catania, he earned a second-level diploma in harpsichord with the highest honors and distinction.
As both a collaborative pianist and violinist, he has performed with major orchestras and theatres, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in the UK, and the Toscanini Orchestra in Parma, as well as the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and Teatro Massimo Vincenzo Bellini in Catania.
He has worked with numerous esteemed artists, among them Jurgen Hess, Jorge Bolet, Ruggero Ricci, Sergei Krylov, Beris Belkin, Pavel Berman, Dimitra Theodossiou, Misha Maisky, Mario Brunello, and Giovanni Sollima, appearing at some of the world’s leading music festivals.
A sought-after accompanist for prestigious masterclasses and competitions—including the “Premio Bellini” in Sicily—he has also performed as a solo pianist in a wide range of operatic, choral, and chamber music concerts. He played Brahms’s Horn Trio at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania.
