Elemental
Choreography
Adi Schwarz and Michele Simi (Italy)
About
Inspired by Gustavo Vélez’s sculpture Elemental, this new choreographic process explores how complexity can arise from simplicity. Taking the sculpture as both a physical and philosophical point of departure, the work investigates pure form, reduction, and structural clarity, seeking— through essential lines and distilled movement—to reveal something deeply human.
“When I created ‘Elemental’, I thought of the essential, of the purity that underlies all form. Stainless steel, with its reflective capacity, becomes a symbol of that inner strength that transcends the material. The polished surface multiplies the light, inviting the viewer to see themselves reflected.
Thus, the work is not only an object, but also an experience: it changes with the time of day, with the surroundings, with the person looking at it. It is a dialogue between matter and spirit, between the strength of the metal, the sensitivity of the sculptural gesture, and the unsuspecting observer.
In ‘Elemental’, I desire to remind us that the most complex arises from the simplest. That, in the search for pure form, we find an echo of humanity, a connection with the essence that dwells within us.”
